Sculptra for Wrinkles

HOW IT WORKS

Your skin will slowly lose its ability to snap back into place as it begins to age; this is due to a lack of collagen being produced, with the ridges and folds now permanent wrinkles and fine lines. Sculptra is a product that can bring back youthfulness to your face, which renews the collagen production in your skin. This is crucial for skin to begin healing, and helps with the reduction of fine lines, wrinkles and other signs of aging.

Your doctor will outline a treatment area during the consultation session, with Sculptra injected into this area as specified. Wrinkles should be reduced as Sculptra will find and contour the area where underlying collagen and fatty tissue has reduced over the years. It also boost the production of collagen simultaneously.

Injected into the deeper skin layers, the Sculptra procedure can be completed in only a few short minutes. Most patients require 2 sessions of treatments, but this will depend on your skin condition. A numbing medicine called licodaine is also mixed into the treatment, ensuring that it causes no discomfort to you.

Please note that Sculptra is not a suitable treatment for those with autoimmune diseases such as lupus or arthritis.

POST-TREATMENT

Results will take awhile before they are noticeable, most likely between 4-6 weeks. During this time, your skin will become thicker and you will slowly notice a gradual reduction in the amount of wrinkles present. This is due to the increase of collagen over the weeks. It is recommended to go for a second touch-up treatment, with results lasting for up to 3 years.

You will undergo sessions 1 month apart, and those over the age of 50 are also advised to go for 3 sessions in order to get better results.

There are no known long-term side effects as a result of using Sculptra, and there are only 2 short-term side effects – bruising and mild redness. Bruising tends to subside within 7 days or less, while skin redness will disappear within a few hours of the treatment. You can apply ice on the treated area 2-3 times a day for 5 minutes at a time to aid the recovery process.
