q-Switch Nd: YAG Laser for Age Spots
WHAT CAUSES AGE SPOTS?
Your skin has its own system to protect itself from the sun’s harmful UV rays, producing melanin in order to shield itself. When melanin ends up becoming focused in several small spots, this can result in the development of age spots on your skin, which can be grey, brown or black in colour.
If melanin is produced too quickly, this can also lead to the formation of large patches of concentrated melanin on your skin, which is known as hyperpigmentation. Darker in colour, these patches may appear on any body part that has been exposed to the sun.
HOW IT WORKS
Our q-Switch Nd:YAG laser is able to treat affected areas using high energy light, which helps to destroy unwanted skin cells and allows the skin to grow new cells to as replacements. Using the q-Switch mode, the laser utilises two wavelengths – 1,064nm and 532nm which can treat skin lesions. It can also penetrate skin deeply without causing harm to the top layers, while also triggering production of collagen and vital proteins which are needed for youthful and healthy skin.
Suitable for all types of skin, the procedure is relatively quick and painless. It lightens your skin tone as well as improving its complexion, which results in smoother and fairer skin. In addition, the FDA has approved the q-Switch Nd:YAG laser for treating various skin conditions, ensuring it is safe for patients.
This treatment may not be suitable if:
- The affected area is infected or has dermatitis
- You are pregnant
- You have suffered from keloid scarring or abnormal wound healing
- You are using light sensitising medication
- Prone to seizures triggered by light
POST-TREATMENT
The treatment does not require any downtime, and you can go back to your daily routine as soon as your session is over. There is also no scarring, swelling or bruising, and no major side effects are associated with the procedure. You may experience mild redness but this will subside within 30 minutes.
You should notice a gradual improvement over a period of several months, with a visible improvement following each session. Treatments are generally spaced 2 weeks apart, with cycles usually consisting of 6 sessions. However, this depends on your skin condition.
