Excimer Laser UVB Therapy

How Excimer Laser Works?
As a further development from narrowband UVB, Excimer light therapy is an improvement on the original laser treatment that delivers wavelengths at about 311-312nm for psoriasis treatment and vitiligo treatment. The new Excimer laser will be delivered with a handheld device, ensuring that the healthy skin around the target treatment area will not be affected, unlike treatment using regular narrowband UVB. This allows for higher levels of radiation to be delivered, resulting in quicker treatments in less sessions.
The wavelength of Excimer laser light therapy is about 308nm, which helps to effectively treat the specified target area during vitiligo treatment or psoriasis treatment. In addition, the density of power can be adjusted to suit the individual conditions of each patient. This extra leeway will allow doctors to perform treatment more effectively. As a result, the healthy skin surrounding the treatment area will be protected and not come in the way of harm.
One other benefit of UVB light therapy is that cellular activities that have been changed pathologically can be normalised using this treatment. This allows for the Excimer laser to be used to address other skin conditions apart from psoriasis and vitiligo, including fungal infection treatment and autoimmune diseases treatment. This highlights how versatile the Excimer laser light therapy treatment is, which is a key reason for its popularity.
Excimer Laser Post Treatment
After the Excimer laser UVB light treatment is completed, you are free to go back to work or resume your daily routine as there is no downtime needed for this procedure.
Results should typically last for a minimum of three months, but it may last for a longer period of time depending on your condition. This will be discussed with you during the initial consultation session, as the number of follow-up treatments and how long the results last are subject to the individual’s condition. Do note that there is a possibility of some minor side effects as a result of UVB light therapy, but your doctor will assess the chances of this during the consultation session.
