WHAT CAUSES WRINKLES?

As you get older, you will soon notice folds, ridges and creases developing in your skin, which will lead to the formation of wrinkles. This occurs because your skin is thinner and drier than before, and is no longer elastic, meaning it cannot snap back into its original position. These wrinkles that develop are permanent, and will not fade away even if your face is in a relaxed state. Your skin will also no longer produce collagen and elastin, meaning it cannot repair itself.

HOW IT WORKS

Also referred to as chemical peel, skin peel is a treatment suitable for men and women of all ages. It utilises a peeling solution to naturally remove the top layer of your skin, which simultaneously eliminates any dead skin cells. It also reveals a fresh, healthy layer of skin underneath that is smoother than the previous layers, which gives your face a more youthful and revitalised appearance.

At Premier Clinic, we use a trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peel; this is one of the original peels used for the purpose of skin rejuvenation, but other types of skin peels are available depending on your specific condition and needs.

You should expect a burning sensation during the initial application of the solution, as it begins to take effect on the skin. A cooling device will be held above your face and blows out cool air to help alleviate the sting considerably. Cold compresses will also be applied after treatment to help cool your skin.

The strength and effectiveness of the peel may also be increased in intensity by applying the chosen solution multiple times, but this will also depend on the condition of your skin as well as its type and desired result. At any rate, you should notice visible improvements after each treatment, regardless of the selected peel.

POST TREATMENT

Most patients only need a cycle of 2-4 peels, but this will vary from person to person. Your doctor will help you to choose the optimum number of sessions during the consultation in order to get the best results. All sessions are spaced 4 weeks apart, and you should stay away from the sun during this period of time. The moisturiser provided should be utilised for up to 7 days, or until your skin is no longer sensitive.
