Skin Peel for Acne
WHAT CAUSES ACNE?
Acne is a very common problem, thought to affect about 75% of all individuals aged 11 to 30 at least once in their lives. This happens when the pores in the skin are clogged up due to an accrual of oil. Oil glands that produce sebum (a natural liquid used by the body to get rid of dead skin cells) are linked to the follicles which connect pores. When the pores are blocked, pimples will begin to form and develop.
Although acne can affect both genders of any age, younger males tend to be more susceptible to developing acne due to higher levels of testosterone present. This can make the condition worse.
HOW IT WORKS
Skin peel is a procedure suitable for men and women of all ages, and is generally used as an effective method to get rid of the upper layers of skin. This is done using a peeling solution rubbed on the skin, causing it to naturally peel. As a result, any dead skin cells are removed, revealing a fresh new layers of skin which is likely to be healthier and smoother than the previous layers.
At Premier Clinic, we use a trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peel which is widely used to rejuvenate skin. Depending on the condition of your skin, other types of skin peel are also available and will be discussed with you during the initial consultation.
During the initial application, you will experience a mild burning sensation which is the effect the solution has on your skin. A cooling device will also be held over your face to help to reduce the sting, while cold compresses will also be applied after completing the procedure to aid the cooling process.
The peel’s strength and effect can be increased if more than one layer of the selected solution is applied, but again this is dependent on your skin type, condition and desired outcome. No matter what solution is used, improvements should be visible with each session.
POST TREATMENT
For most people, a cycle of 2-4 peels should be sufficient but this may vary depending on the skin condition and desired results. All sessions should be spaced about 4 weeks apart, but this will be discussed during the consultation.
Do note that you should minimise any exposure to the sun and use sunscreen lotion whenever necessary. The moisturiser provided should be used for about 1 week, or until your skin is no longer sensitive.
