Saggy Skin Treatment by Non-Surgical Thread Lift
WHAT CAUSES SAGGY SKIN?
Your body naturally produces proteins known as collagen and elastin, which binds your skin together and keeps it smooth and elastic. When you get older, the production rate of these proteins will decrease, meaning your skin becomes less plump and elastic, losing its ability to snap back into place.
The effects of gravity will also become more noticeable since your skin structure is no longer as strong as it used to be. The sun may also cause damage to your skin, destroying the connective tissue that is responsible for its youthful appearance.
HOW IT WORKS
After the treatment area is outlined, absorbable PDO (Polydiozanone) threads will be inserted to act as a binder that holds your skin tissue together to combat the effects of sagging. It grips the tissue surrounding it, gently pushing up sagging skin and holding it in place to make your skin look healthier and more natural. This also catalyses the production of fresh elastic and collagen in your skin, while the threads get absorbed gradually over the next 6-8 months. Your skin’s complexion should also improve over this period of time, but the main noticeable feature should be the reduced skin sagginess.
WHY THREAD LIFT?
The threads are made using the same material as dissolvable sutures in surgeries, but this procedure is completely non-surgical which means you get the benefits of a surgery without undergoing one! Although it may take up to 8 months to absorb the PDO threads, results should last from 1-2 years which makes thread lift one of the most popular treatments around as it does not need to be performed regularly. Improvements are almost immediate, and there is also no downtime required for the treatment.
DURING THE PROCEDURE
An anaesthetic cream will be used to numb your skin before treatment, minimising discomfort or pain; the whole procedure should take about 30-40 minutes depending on the treatment area. Your might experience a prickling sensation but this is not painful.
The threads used might vary in length and thickness depending on the treatment area. The eye area is usually treated with shorted threads, while longer ones can be used to repair the jawlines and neck. Thicker threads can also act as an alternative to Botox as it is used in your forehead muscles. Your doctor will be on hand to offer advice regarding treatments for specific areas, in order to optimise your results.
