Fractional CO2 Laser for Dull Skin
WHAT CAUSES DULL SKIN?
Your skin may appear dull and old due to a number of reasons. The lifestyle of the city is likely to expose your skin to a lot of pollution and dust, which can settle on your skin and affect its appearance. Furthermore, stress caused by a tough job and the frenetic pace of city life can also contribute to skin blemishes and tired looking skin. Not getting enough sleep may also be a potential cause, and may result in eye bags, dark eye circles and even wrinkles.
Even if you don’t lead a hectic lifestyle, you may still develop dull skin. Both overexposure and underexposure to the sun can cause problems – you should always use a high SPF cream if you will be exposed to sunlight for a long time, although it is better not to stay under the sun for long periods of time.
A high coffee and tea intake will also lead to the dehydration of your skin which can lead to wrinkles forming. Not removing makeup foundation before bedtime can also contribute to dull skin, as this prevents pores from breathing.
HOW CAN IT BE TREATED?
Using a new form of technology called Fractional Laser Resurfacing (Lux1540, non-ablative), dull skin is treatable. It makes use of laser energy micro beams to break through and penetrate skin tissue, which causes newer and healthier skin to grow over the old layer of skin in the outlined treatment area.
The results of this treatment are comparable to that of ablative laser resurfacing or deep chemical peels, but it is not as uncomfortable and does not come with downtime either. As skin begins to heal, the new skin layer will appear more radiant and glowing compared to the older, duller layer. Fractional Laser Resurfacing does not leave wounds on your skin, and you can even apply makeup as soon as the treatment is completed.
Treatments are usually spaced about 1-4 weeks apart, for a total of 4-5 treatments. However, this number may vary depending on your particular condition and skin, and your doctor will discuss this with you. In addition, facials and skin products should also be used to maintain a good skincare regime to maintain your glowing and radiant skin.
