Dermaroller for Acne
WHAT CAUSES ACNE?
Pores in your skin are connected by a series of follicles which also act as passageways. When a build-up of sebum results in these getting blocked, pimples begin to form. Sebum is a natural liquid produced in order to help the body get rid of dead skin cells through the follicles, bringing them to the surface of the skin.
Affecting approximately 75% of teenagers and adults at least once, acne is a common skin problem during puberty. However, it can also be a problem during adulthood. Younger males tend to be more susceptible to acne because of the higher amounts of testosterone present, which can exacerbate the condition.
HOW DERMAROLLER WORKS
Dermaroller is also referred to as skin needling, and aims to catalyse the collagen production rate in the skin to help speed up the healing process. It freshens the upper skin layers as it promotes the regrowth of new skin cells, resulting in new layers of skin tissue.
Using a series of sharp micro-needles attached to a sterile roller, the treatment creates many microscopic channels on the skin’s surface. The minor damage caused is intentional as it kickstarts the body’s production of collagen and elastin to naturally repair the skin, creating new skin cells. This results in your skin becoming revitalised and appearing much more youthful, as well as becoming firmer and thicker. The microscopic channels will close up very quickly, which allows the skin to finish the healing process swiftly.
A specially customised serum will also be used on your skin during the procedure; this will specifically focus on your skin’s needs. In addition, a topical anaesthetic will also be applied to minimise any pain or discomfort. Rollers are changed for each person to ensure hygiene, and no allergic reactions are caused by the needles made from titanium alloys.
POST DERMAROLLER TREATMENT
As the microscopic channels close up very quickly, it is unlikely that you will suffer from infections but some skin inflammation may be experienced. This will naturally subside in a few hours, while it will be gone complete after a day.
For the average individual, a minimum of 3 treatments is recommended about 6 weeks apart for general anti-aging. 5 treatments is normal for acne or general scarring. Do note that this number might vary depending on your skin condition, and your doctor will offer advice and recommend a suitable number of sessions.
