New Sedation Procedure Available At Premier Clinic!
Hi all, the weekend is nearly over and I hope you have all had a wonderful time catching up with friends and family, or simply resting to prepare yourself for the week ahead. For today’s post, I would like to highlight and share a new service available at Premier Clinic! We are very excited to now be able to offer all patients sedation prior to aesthetic procedures that may be invasive or painful. Allow me to explain how it works.
How Does Sedation Work?
Sedation is meant to help calm individuals down prior to procedures, or even put them to sleep for a set period of time. This is so that the procedure can be carried out smoothly and without any complications. Not all individuals will need sedation as it depends on the pain threshold of each person.
Any sedatives or anaesthetics will be administered intraveously (pic from wisegeek.com) |
At Premier Clinic, we use intravenous injections to calm patients down, using Midazolam and Fentanyl. During the sedation process, we will constantly assess and monitor your condition to ensure that there are no complications and that you are responding well to the treatment.
Fentanyl is a classified medication that is a pain reliever, and is 50 to 100 times more powerful than morphine. It can take effect almost immediately and the peak of the anaesthesia will happen approximately 10 to 15 minutes after being supplied intravenously. You will only need one dose to remain in a state of painlessness for 20 to 45 minutes, which is enough time for doctors to perform most aesthetic procedures. Doctors will administer the dosage in small amounts until the desired response is achieved.
Midazolam is a type of medication that is classified as a short-term sedative which helps to numb your central nervous system. It does not have any effect on your central nervous system, and only helps to make you feel drowsy. It is very effective and popular because it will ensure that you cannot remember the aesthetic procedure taking place. Midazolam is fast-acting, and only takes about 1 to 5 minutes to take effect on your body, with the effect peaking within half an hour. The effect should generally last for an hour, but it may last for up to six hours.

Depending on the procedure and your situation, our doctors will administer either Fentanyl or Midazolam, or even both to you. It is also important to note that if you do require sedation for your particular procedure, it is necessary that you have someone available to send you home as you may still be groggy or drowsy after the treatment session is over.
Should you have any queries or concerns regarding sedation, and if you would require it prior to your treatment, do schedule a complimentary consultation with our doctors here at Premier Clinic. We will be more than happy to advise you accordingly to prepare you for your session!
