Foods That Can Help You Gain Weight (Healthily!) – Part 1

by | Apr 8, 2015

Hey everyone, hope you are all having another fantastic week and are embracing all that is coming at you. For today’s topic, I want to look at the subject of gaining weight healthily. We are often worried about losing weight or maintaining our figure, but what about those of you that find yourself too thin and are eager to gain weight? Allow me to list out several foods that can help you achieve this purpose while eating healthy options!
Eggs
A favourite across all meals, eggs are full of protein and minerals, including good cholesterol. You can use them to bulk up your meals and add calories. Whether added to your sandwich during the day, or your rice at night, eggs are bound to give your body mass a much needed boost. One egg a day is usually fine, but you may also opt for two a day if desired. You can bulk it up by cooking an omelette and loading it up with cheese, ham, onions and other ingredients.

Peanut Butter
This is a suitable option for heavy breakfasts or even a light snack during the day. Not only is it delicious, it is high in protein which can help you develop muscle mass (assuming you work out as well)! It goes well with bread, oatmeal, or even as a dip for fruits. There are other nut butters around as well, but peanut butter is the most common and easily available. Try looking for a natural option without much added sugar or other unhealthy ingredients.

Lean Meats
Vegetarians beware! Lean meats are an excellent way to bulk up, and the best part is how tasty they are. Grilled, roasted, pan-fried, baked; there are so many ways to prepare lean meats, and they are full of proteins which aid the development of muscle mass. Lean meats do not contain much fat which also means that it is low in cholesterol, giving you a delicious, healthy way to bulk up. Examples include red meat such as beef or lamb, poultry such as chicken or turkey, and fish such as salmon. Mouth-watering options indeed!

Tropical Fruits
These are more associated with weight loss, but their natural sugars and energy benefits also make it a great option for gaining weight. Just add servings to your meals and you have a simple way to put on a few extra pounds over time. Bananas, mangoes, papayas and pineapples are just a few examples of tropical fruits that are suitable for this. You can even blend them into a smoothie to consume more fruits in one sitting!

Natural Granola

It’s easy to make at home, and can be eaten for breakfast or in between meals as a light snack. Consisting of rolled oats, healthy fat and sugar, it gives you a burst of energy. You can add nuts, dried fruit and yoghurt as well to create a very balanced dish that contains high amounts of protein, fibre and natural sugar. Granola can be bought ready-made but try making your own as you’ll get to customise it exactly the way you like it!
